The Christian and Civic Life

The Christian is to live in harmony with God while living in this society. To live in harmony, we must live in subjection with the governing authorities. We have studied in church the role of Christian in the civic life. The Christian is told by God in Romans 13 to be in subjection to the governing authorities because they are 1) ordained by God, 2) given to be ministers of justice and righteousness, and 3) given a sword for a reason. We have learned much from studying this topic, even though it is challenging to accept that God is putting these governments in power, when they: 1) endorse homosexuality, 2) take away our religious freedoms, 3) endorse abortion, and 4) many leaders are corrupt. Remember, God uses the government to both lead and judge the people. They are a reflection of us. Therefore, we must live rightly, vote, and participate in government as much as God has given grace to us to do so.

If we pray only and do not vote, we are like the parable Jesus told about the man who said to the person in need, "hope you are are okay," (my paraphrase) but refuses to lift a finger to help the person in need. Pray, then participate in the process, then vote. In God we trust.

Frugal Ideas

A sealed envelope - Put in the freezer for a few hours, then slide a knife under the flap. The envelope can then be resealed.
=======================================
Use Empty toilet paper roll to store appliance cords. It keeps them neat and you can write on the roll what appliance it belongs to.
==========================================
For icy door steps in freezing temperatures: get warm water and put Dawn dish washing liquid in it. Pour it all over the steps. They won't refreeze.
===========================================
To remove old wax from a glass candle holder put it in the freezer for a few hours. Then take the candle holder out and turn it upside down. The wax fall out.
==========================================
Crayon marks on walls? This worked wonderfully! A damp rag, dipped in baking soda. Comes off with little effort (elbow grease that is!).
==========================================
Permanent marker on appliances/counter tops (like store receipt BLUE!) rubbing alcohol on paper towel.
==========================================
Whenever I purchase a box of S.O.S Pads, I immediately take a pair of scissors and cut each pad into halves. After years of having to throw away rusted and unused and smelly pads, I finally decided that this would be much more economical. Now a box of S.O.S pads last me indefinitely! In fact, I have noticed that the scissors get 'sharpened'' this way!
===========================================
Blood stains on clothes? Not to worry! Just pour a little hydrogen peroxide on a cloth and proceed to wipe off every drop of blood. Works every time! (Now, where to put the body?) LOL
===========================================
Use vertical strokes when washing windows outside and horizontal for inside windows. This way you can tell which side has the streaks. Straight vinegar will get outside windows really clean. Don't wash windows on a sunny day. They will dry too quickly and will probably streak.
===========================================
Spray a bit of perfume on the light bulb in any room to create a lovely light scent in each room when the light is turned on.
===========================================
Place fabric softener sheets in dresser drawers and your clothes will smell freshly washed for weeks to come. You can also do this with towels and linen.
===========================================
Candles will last a lot longer if placed in the freezer for at least 3 hours prior to burning.
===========================================
To clean artificial flowers, pour some salt into a paper bag and add the flowers. Shake vigorously as the salt will absorb all the dust and dirt and leave your artificial flowers looking like new! Works like a charm!
===========================================
To easily remove burnt on food from your skillet, simply add a drop or two of dish soap and enough water to cover bottom of pan, and bring to a boil on stove top.
===========================================
Spray your TUPPERWARE with nonstick cooking spray before pouring in tomato base d sauces and there won't be any stains.
===========================================
Wrap celery in aluminum foil when putting in the refrigerator and it will keep for weeks.
===========================================
When boiling corn on the cob, add a pinch of sugar to help bring out the corn's natural sweetness
===========================================
Cure for headaches: Take a lime, cut it in half, and rub it on your forehead. The throbbing will go away.
===========================================
To get rid of itch from mosquito bites, try applying soap on the area and you will experience instant relief.
===========================================
Ants, ants, ants everywhere ... Well, they are said to never cross a chalk line. So, get your chalk out and draw a line on the floor or wherever ants tend to march. See for yourself.
===========================================
Use air-freshener to clean mirrors. It does a good job and better still, leaves a lovely smell to the shine.
===========================================
When you get a splinter, reach for the scotch tape before resorting to tweezers or a needle. Simply put the scotch tape over the splinter, and then pull it off. Scotch tape removes most splinters painlessly and easily.
===========================================
Now look what you can do with Alka Seltzer...Clean a toilet. Drop in two Alka Seltzer tablets, wait twenty minutes, brush and flush. The citric acid and effervescent action clean vitreous China.
============================================
Clean a vase. To remove a stain from the bottom of a glass vase or cruet, fill with water and drop in two Alka Seltzer tablets.
============================================
Polish jewelry. Drop two Alka Seltzer tablets into a glass of water and immerse the jewelry for two minutes.
============================================
Clean a thermos bottle. Fill the bottle with water, drop in four Alka Seltzer tablets, and let soak for an hour (or longer, if necessary).
=============================================================
Unclog a drain. Clear the sink drain by dropping three Alka Seltzer tablets down the drain followed by a cup of Heinz White Vinegar. Wait a few minutes, and then run the hot water.

VBS this Summer

With warm days coming up, it makes me think of my favorite season, summer.

Soon it will be time to plan VBS and I really want us to have one here in our church this year. Any suggestions or stories of your VBS experience? We'd love to hear them.

LeBron's Conference Call on the Adrenal Gland

Dr. LeBron Long again gave an excellent presentation on the adrenal gland and how stress affects it. Did you know:
1. Stress is the single largest cause of financial loss of employers, as employees miss work
2. Stress is the single largest cause of sickness.
3. Stress is not an emotion but rather the wear and tear on your body that often causes negative emotions.
4. Stress on our body is like lack of maintenance on a car or house, and like "gunning" a car. While stomping on the gas has quick results, it results in rapid wear that shows up later.

Food we eat, air we breathe, and water we drink, along with emotional stressors, such as overwork are the main causes.

The adrenal gland regulates the output of several substances that have important health affects. It is a "rush" reflex. However, continued high stress can cause it to wear out, which releases cortisol. I'm sure you've heard of this chemical, which is often blamed for belly fat, etc. Cortisol causes the cell structures to break down, which leads to premature aging and illness.

LeBron Long, a Naturpathic Doctor, did his 200+ page dissertation on "adaptagens," of which 40 or so have been found to date. Just like the body shivers and sweats to adapt, adaptagens are unique herbs and other substances that almost miraculously repair cells and give the adrenal some breathing space.

Adapt-A-Life has two products to help with the wear and tear on our body:
Adapt-A-GenX is a liquid that has the top 9 of these adaptagens
Adrenal Support is a new product targeting the adrenal.

To hear the presentation in the next two weeks, at your convenience, please call 218-936-1005, pass code 73849#.

Edwards Wins Again

Sweet. Now the points lead and his main components wrecked or had car problems (Gordon, Johnson, and Stewart). Junior was second, much to the happiness of my son Mark and trillions of fans. Mark Martin was tenth.

Mark Martin won the Nationwide race - his 46th win in that series (by far the most wins in that series by any driver).

Wedded Bliss

Also from Parenting.

Wedded bliss.
Top five factors in a happy marriage:
1. Faithfulness (in all ways)
2. Good sex [maybe should be number 1 or after the boat, ha ha - my comment]
3. Sharing household chores
4. A really good babysitter
5. A bass boat [my comment]

Common Kid Tests that are not Undertaken

Also from Parenting, when it comes to children, most doctors skip body mass index (BMI) and other recommended tests that screen for hazards often attributed to seniors.

BMI
Who needs it? Kids age 2+
% docs that skip? 94%
Why important? Easiest way to spot obese kids
Cholesterol
Kids age 2+ with risk factors (weight and family history)
87%
High blood fat levels increase risk of diabetes
Blood pressure
Age 3 and up
45%
Only 1 in 4 kids with hypertension are diagnosed.

Interesting Survey

We get a Parenting magazine that we do not even pay for. The magazine is usually quite left-leaning. I read to learn some good insight but mostly to see what the libs are saying. I found a survey in the mag I thought you should see. Over 300 responded to an online survey put on by the magazine. The question was, "Are dolls too sexy?"

I am encouraged that 82% said yes, but below is what disturbs me. Two of the three comments provided quite disturb me (these comments are probably representative of the whole lot):

"If today's 'girl' dolls are too sexy, then aren't 'boy' dolls like GI Joe and Spider-Man too macho?" Is this woman insane? The very thing our boys today need is "manly" role models, tough (yet gentle) guys, that take on the roles God calls them to take, to lead families and the church, to lead the society, to defend against harm. In a generation where schools are banning "cowboys and Indians" and many other wild, macho, or seemingly racist/sexist games, we need to make sure boys do "boy things". Put them in Boy Scouts, take them fishing, teach them about a proper way to love women in a Godly way, teach them as many sports as possible. Give them a chance to explore "manly" things. If they want to play with dolls after that, so be it, but I doubt they will prefer that.

"I noticed that the Bratz dolls of color are the only ones that actually have nonwhite facial features. I'd give my daughters a multicultural doll in a bra and miniskirt over a homogeneous-looking doll any day." WHAT!! Maybe we need to send her back to "diversity training" because she sure is going soft on us (tongue in cheek). This woman cannot possibly have a pulse or be breathing if she really things that the only problem with Bratz dolls or others is that they aren't "black" enough. Diversity is not a goal, but a fact of life. Let's celebrate our differences but love us for who we are. What a racist.

If you disagree, comment! Or if you agree.

Insightful Face of the Nation

From David Myers, reprinted in the book my sister Lynzie gave me, "Christian Wisdom of the Jedi Masters."

We are better paid, better fed, better housed, better educated, and healthier than ever before...yet for 30 years America slid into a deepening social recession...divorce doubled, teen suicide tripled, recorded violent crime quadrupled, prison population quintupled, percentage of babies born to unwed mothers has sextupled, cohabitation (a predictor of future divorce) has increased sevenfold, and depression has soared to ten times the pre-WWII level.

The book's author, Dick Staub, follows by saying: "Everyone serves someone, either the devil or the Lord. We make the choice not of whether we will serve by whom we will obey, and the fallout from the sixties (and since [my comment]) makes it pretty clear who most people are serving."

He later quotes Mark Twain: "It's not what I don't understand in the Bible that bothers me; it's what I do understand."

My comment: If we wish to stop the decay as a nation, we have to fight back against the dark forces in our society, workers of the devil, that wish to keep all religious expression from public life.
